A Fancy Cake Break with Lady M Confections

Lady M - Chocolate Mille Crêpes

There is always time for tea and cake.

This lovely motto paved the way for my fanciest dessert adventure to date.

For amidst the grind and gridlock of Los Angeles, lies Lady M Confections. Known for their cakes and confectionary delights, they take pride in the taste and appearance of their refined handmade recipes.

Their LA boutique is not your standard cake shop.

In fact, with its minimal decor and tones of gray and white, it felt a little austere. The seated clientele were quiet, only the sound of their plates cut the silence. Whole desserts were on display, while the associates waited behind the windowed counter to slice and serve.

At the Lady M price point, I didn’t want to gamble any money. Thus, despite the product descriptions, I asked for advice as a first-timer. The associate’s demeanor was pleasant and after her insight, I felt more confident about my two selections.

Later, I opened the boutique box and began my culinary escape with their Chocolate Mille Crêpes. A chocolate version of their signature cake, it features 20 paper-thin handmade chocolate crêpes layered with chocolate pastry cream.

Back at the Lady M Boutique, their famous cake was also available in Original and Green Tea. However, since the chocolate is seasonal, I decided to take advantage of the opportunity.

Lady M - Strawberry Mille Feuille

By no means am I a crêpe aficionado. All the same, this was an excellent choice. Its weightless texture melted on the tongue in moments, leaving the silky, chocolaty pastry cream to linger. Bite after bite, it was a lavish experience.

Satiated by my introduction to Lady M, I proceeded to the Strawberry Mille Feuille, also known as a Napoleon. It’s layers of puff pastry, whipped cream, vanilla sponge cake, and strawberries.

I enjoyed this even more than the crêpe cake.

Perhaps it was the delicate layers of pastry, so flaky, buttery and with a slight crunch. Or the ample whipped cream – rich and sweetened just right. Maybe it was the moist cake; and I don’t even care for sponge cake. Lastly, there were bits of fresh strawberries.

Frills don’t easily sway me. Still, I know quality when I taste it. For this reason, I give Lady M Confections 4 out of 5 stars.

Though I can’t say when I’ll be able to return, I will stay committed to their belief.

There will always be time for simple pleasures. There will always be time for cake.
