Pie Magic in a Jar

I Like Pie - 7 LayerEven a cupcake connoisseur needs some diversity, especially when there’s a chill in the air.

For as many benefits as cupcakes have, they do not warm the soul. That’s a job for pie.

Thus for my last recon, I went to I Like Pie Bake Shop in Claremont, California. They offer jelly jar (single-sized) pies in sweet and savory flavors. They feature traditional favorites, along with seasonal specialties.

Per my normal practice, I reviewed their website before my visit. Though it prepared me for their menu, it did not do their establishment justice.

Upon entering the I Like Pie Bake Shop, I was confronted by a tasteful presentation of delectable pies.

Oh, the possibilities.

The associate greeted me warmly and answered my questions, as curiosity got the best of me.

In the end, despite the temptations, I stuck with my original plan.

Once home, I started with their Pumpkin Praline with Cream Cheese. It’s their pumpkin custard pie with cream cheese and pecan praline crumble.

This flavor was available in two sizes – small and large jelly jars. I had purchased the small for $4.50.

Usually if given a choice, I prefer sweet potato pie to pumpkin, as the latter isn’t sweet enough for me. However, I Like Pie’s version was the perfect balance of sweet and spice. I adored it.

Their crust was tender and the right thickness to cradle the filling without overpowering. The cream cheese atop the pumpkin was smooth and sweet. While the pecan praline crumble was a buttery complement.

Next, I tried their 7-Layer Pie. It’s a graham crust filled with chocolate, butterscotch chips, pecans, coconut and cream cheese.

This pie was available only in the large jelly jar size at $6.50.

As a bigger pie, it was suitable for sharing, particularly with its decadent ingredients. Instead, I chose to eat slower…

Before indulging, I heated the pie a little to make the ingredients happy. The result was a gooey, melty confection where the graham crust served as an edible bowl and the coconut barely held the other ingredients together.

It was sumptuous. My taste buds couldn’t keep up – chocolate, butterscotch, pecans, and coconut.

I gulped a glass of milk afterwards and sighed in content.

I give I Like Pie Bake Shop 4.5 out of 5 stars.

Yes, it’s that good! Of course I’ve had my share of pie, but none that compare to these. I will be back for more.

As a Frosting Fanatic, in the cake versus pie debate, hands down I choose cake. However, one cannot deny the magic of pie.
